Core Skills:

  2. Load Securing & Safety Compliance: Strong knowledge of load securing techniques and safety regulations for transporting equipment and materials.
  3. Driving Safety Awareness: Committed to safe driving practices, including obeying speed limits, maintaining a safe following distance, and avoiding distractions while driving.
  4. Job Site Skills: Ability to perform labor tasks, such as digging, trenching, and assisting with utility installation, when not driving.
  5. Equipment Maintenance Knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and the ability to identify and report mechanical issues or needed repairs.
  6. Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain high standards of quality and safety in both driving and labor tasks.
  7. Teamwork & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with crew members and supervisors on-site.
  8. Time Management: Capable of managing time effectively to ensure timely arrival at job sites and efficient completion of tasks.
  9. Basic Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with underground utility construction processes, including trenching, pipe laying, and site preparation.
  10. Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing work conditions, job site demands, and varying driving routes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Safe Driving & Equipment Transportation:
    • Safely operating commercial vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and crew members to and from job sites.
    • Ensuring that all loads are properly secured and compliant with transportation regulations before departing.
    • Following all traffic laws, including driving below the speed limit and maintaining safe distances between vehicles to prevent accidents.
  2. Job Site Assistance:
    • Assisting with labor tasks on-site when not driving, including digging, trenching, and pipe installation as needed.
    • Helping to set up and maintain a safe work environment by clearing debris, managing tools, and supporting the crew.
    • Collaborating with foremen and crew members to complete daily tasks efficiently and effectively.
  3. Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
    • Conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in safe working condition, including checking brakes, lights, and tire pressure.
    • Reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the supervisor or maintenance team immediately.
    • Keeping detailed records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  4. Load Management:
    • Ensuring proper loading and unloading of equipment and materials, verifying weights, and following safe handling procedures.
    • Using appropriate equipment (e.g., straps, tarps) to secure loads and prevent shifting during transport.
    • Monitoring load distribution to maintain vehicle stability and prevent accidents.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Adhering to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on the job site and during transport.
    • Participating in safety meetings and training sessions to stay informed of best practices and company policies.
    • Reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents to supervisors promptly to maintain a culture of safety.
  6. Communication & Teamwork:
    • Maintaining clear communication with crew members and supervisors regarding job site needs, driving schedules, and any potential delays.
    • Collaborating with the team to coordinate logistics for material delivery and equipment needs.
    • Supporting team efforts by providing assistance and taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
  7. Time Management:
    • Planning routes effectively to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials to job sites while accounting for traffic and weather conditions.
    • Arriving at job sites on time and efficiently managing time during labor tasks to maintain project schedules.
  8. Record Keeping:
    • Maintaining accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, and job site activities, including labor contributions and materials transported.
    • Submitting daily work logs and vehicle inspection reports to the supervisor for review.
  9. Training & Development:
    • Staying updated on industry regulations and safety protocols related to commercial driving and construction practices.
    • Participating in ongoing training to improve driving skills, load securing techniques, and construction knowledge.
