Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision of Crew:
    • Leading and supervising the construction crew, delegating tasks, and ensuring all members are aligned with project objectives.
    • Monitoring worker performance and providing feedback, ensuring each crew member works efficiently and effectively.
    • Fostering a positive and energetic work environment that encourages collaboration and respect.
  2. Project Management & Coordination:
    • Managing daily operations on-site, ensuring the project stays on schedule and meets production goals.
    • Coordinating with project managers and superintendents.
    • Tracking project progress, adjusting schedules when necessary, and identifying areas to improve productivity.
  3. Safety Management:
    • Ensuring that all crew members comply with OSHA standards and company-specific safety guidelines.
    • Conducting daily safety briefings, ensuring the proper use of PPE, and addressing potential safety risks on-site.
    • Reporting and resolving any safety violations or incidents to higher management promptly.
  4. Quality Control & Inspections:
    • Inspecting trenches, excavations, and utility installations to ensure they meet project specifications and quality standards.
    • Overseeing the accuracy of work performed by the crew and ensuring that any deviations from plans are corrected immediately.
    • Conducting final checks on completed work before moving on to the next phase.
  5. Worksite Organization & Maintenance:
    • Maintaining a well-organized job site by directing the placement of materials, tools, and machinery.
    • Ensuring that tools and equipment are properly maintained and in working order.
    • Setting up safety barriers, signage, and traffic control to create a safe and efficient work environment.
  6. Problem Solving & Decision-Making:
    • Quickly resolving any issues that arise during excavation or utility installation, whether due to design changes, underground utility conflicts, or weather conditions.
    • Acting as the point person for conflict resolution between workers or between different site teams, ensuring minimal disruption to progress.
  7. Training & Mentoring:
    • Providing on-the-job training for laborers, ensuring they understand their tasks and follow proper safety protocols.
    • Encouraging crew members to enhance their skills and offering mentorship to improve overall team performance.
    • Leading by example with a focus on professionalism, dedication, and high-quality workmanship.
  8. Resource Management:
    • Managing the allocation and use of tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring no waste and that resources are readily available when needed.
    • Coordinating with office to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to avoid project delays. (materials quantity getting low)
  9. Reporting & Documentation:
    • Keeping accurate records of daily work progress, material usage, crew hours, and any on-site incidents or challenges.
    • Reporting progress, delays, and issues to the project manager/Superintendent and discussing adjustments when necessary to meet deadlines.
  10. Team Motivation & Positive Atmosphere:
    • Cultivating a team environment with a strong focus on a positive attitude and upbeat energy.
    • Motivating the crew to take pride in their work, maintain high morale, and stay engaged throughout the project.
  11. Crew Truck:
    • Safely operating the crew truck to transport crew members, tools, and materials to and from job sites.
    • Ensuring that the truck is properly maintained and that all loads are securely fastened and compliant with safety regulations.
    • Following all traffic laws and maintaining safe driving practices while representing the company on the road.
